Just Care

Caring for future generations
Just Care was founded by Kathleen and Jacquie on 4 May 2015 in memory of Jacquie’s father, John Rathfelder, a devoted junior school teacher of 25 years. Recognising a critical need for aftercare in Mount Pleasant, they established the initiative in collaboration with the Department of Education and with support from the Overstrand LED Department. In 2026, Kathleen and Jacquie retired and handed over to Nelani. With a deep passion for children, she is committed to encouraging them to grow, build confidence, and thrive.
We initially operated from Mount Pleasant Junior School. In 2017, after being selected as the beneficiary of the Lighthouse-to-Lighthouse charity walk, we were able to build our own purpose-designed aftercare facility in Mount Pleasant, where we continue to serve the community today.
Who We Are
We are a registered Non Profit Company (2018/422030/08) and Public Benefit Organisation (930065154) dedicated to supporting and uplifting children through safe, structured after-school care. We currently serve approximately 90 children, with a growing waiting list that reflects the urgent need for accessible care and support within our community.
Operating weekdays from 12:00 to 5:00 pm, we provides nutritious meals daily, supervised homework support, and a balanced programme of sports and life-skills activities. Our caring staff and volunteers create a nurturing, stimulating environment where children are encouraged to learn, grow, and build confidence.
At Just Care, our focus goes beyond after-school supervision. We aim to positively shape young lives at grassroots level by offering stability, guidance, and opportunity during critical developmental years. With continued support, we strive to strengthen and expand our services, ensuring a sustainable future for the children and the community we serve.
Together, through collective care and commitment, we can create lasting change and help build a better tomorrow.
