Caring for future generations
JUST CARE opened on the 4th May 2015, the anniversary of John Rathfelder’s birthday to whom this charity is dedicated. He was a dedicated junior school teacher in Cape Town for 25 years. Following his passing in 2013, Kathleen and Jacquie (his daughter) established the charity with a focus on education, after identifying a critical need for after-school care.
In collaboration with the Department of Education and with support from the Overstrand LED Department, JUST CARE opened at Mount Pleasant Junior School in 2015. In 2017, after being selected as the beneficiary of the Lighthouse-to-Lighthouse charity walk, JUST CARE was able to build its own purpose-designed aftercare facility in Mount Pleasant, where it continues to serve the community.
Who We Are
JUST CARE is a registered Public Benefit Organisation dedicated to supporting and uplifting children through safe, structured after-school care. We currently serve approximately 90 children, with a growing waiting list of more than 120 children that reflects the urgent need for accessible care and support within our community.
Operating weekdays from 12:00 to 5:00 pm, JUST CARE provides nutritious meals daily, supervised homework support, and a balanced programme of sports and life-skills activities. Our caring staff and volunteers create a nurturing, stimulating environment where children are encouraged to learn, grow, and build confidence.
At JUST CARE, our focus goes beyond after-school supervision. We aim to positively shape young lives at grassroots level by offering stability, guidance, and opportunity during critical developmental years. With continued support, we strive to strengthen and expand our services, ensuring a sustainable future for the children and the community we serve.
